Staring Sabeth & Frame
With DJs Johnny Crates and Who
Sabeth
Sabeth began painting in 1987, his first piece under the moniker sabef appeared in 1989 with variations ensuing over the years including sabef, sabf, sabeth, sab and sabs. He was heavily involved in the Melbourne train movement 1990-1995.
Sabeth’s work has continued to progress steadily over the years. His first solo show last year featured a series of works using Cut Acrylic Sheets and other sign materials and was met with a great response. He created detailed sculpture works, bringing his flat wall paintings into the 3D world.
“A piece of paper is just not big enough really. I like to freestyle, go to a wall these days with all the paint I have, put on a cap and just let what ever wants to come out, come out! It's a hit and miss affair painting like this as it could come out either way. It's like Yumcha...you never know what’s going to be served up!”
Frame
Frame has been painting since the mid 90’s and is a known for his distinct letter styles and brilliant use of colour. His work has a comic feel with strong lines and bold bright colours.
“Ever since I can remember I’ve been interested in art. I never really felt at home with any particular art form until I found graffiti. I enjoy using a spray can or marker as a tool of trade, perfecting my skills and progressing with different techniques, which is something I continue to master.
I felt the day wasn’t complete without ‘getting up’ on a train and competing with other writers to be, ‘all city’. I have become more versatile over the years being involved with graphic design. I use the same principles of graffiti to apply, colour, typography, illustration, and photography to different branding solutions for apparel, product & packaging design.”
