Gold Coast, Australia, 20th January 2012 ~ The Gold Coast's inaugural surf arts and culture celebration, Bleach* Surfing the Fringe, today announced a lineup change to the music component of the festival which will run from 11-26 Feb 2012.

Due to a serious family emergency, experimental US duo Inner Tube have canceled their run of Australian dates. Inner Tube were scheduled to appear with The Break at The Sound Lounge as part of the Bleach* Surfing the Fringe festival on the 24th of February. Patrons seeking ticket refunds will be able to do so by calling the venue.
Replacing Inner Tube for this double bill event will be The Windy Hills. Fronted by surf musician, journalist and movie maker Andrew Kidman, The Windy Hills are excited about the last minute opportunity to play with The Break, a surf music super group comprising of members from Midnight Oil and Violent Femmes. “It will be fun to play with those guys. I’ve seen them in their other bands, so I’m looking forward to seeing the legacy in action, “ said Kidman.
Hailing from the hinterland of Northern NSW, The Windy Hills’ own live performances are choreographed to a montage of surf film that evolves and changes throughout the show. The footage is drawn from Kidman’s personal collection compiled over 20 years of filming, then edited and spliced with footage from other surf filmmakers, such as Morning of the Earth’s Albe Falzon. Kidman says he’ll be digging up local footage to edit into the show to give the Bleach* performance a home-grown feel. “It’s fun for us, we can edit the footage to suit each show, and it also takes the pressure off us so that we can just focus on playing – I really enjoy looking out across the crowd and everyone’s mesmerized by what’s on screen instead of studying what we’re doing on stage,” said Kidman. The four-piece will be playing tracks from their back catalogue, including 2010’s ‘Lost In The Ether’, as well as airing some newer unreleased material.
Other additions to the Bleach* lineup include three new bands added to opening day festivities. Bleach* Street, a free outdoor street party that will feature live music, art galleries, market stalls, family activities and a licensed area, will open Bleach* Surfing the Fringe on February 11.
Joining the existing lineup of King Tide, Band of Frequencies, and The Lamplights will be the up-tempo gypsy flamenco sounds of A French Butler Called Smith. These Gold Coast lads will perform their high-energy instrumental fusion to get Bleach* Street jumping.
Also added to the bill for Bleach* Street is the alt-surf indie pop stylings of talented local group, Oceanics, who have been wowing over crowds and critics alike with their impressive live performances.
Bleach* Street will also feature the multi-talented Nadia Sunde and the Swing Set and their joyful compositions that celebrate the magical space that exists between grownups and kids.
Meanwhile Bleach* Festival’s Sea Salt Sunrise will enjoy the laidback surf sounds of Isaac Paddon. This concept breakfast on foreshore in front of Kirra Surf Lifesaving Club will pair surf-inspired culinary creations with live music in a magnificent outdoor setting.
The Bleach* Festival will showcase over fifty-five art and photography installations, film screenings, talks, fashion, theatre and food events across the spectacular beaches, foreshores and major venues unique to the Southern Gold Coast. For 16 days, across 10kms, over 80 artists and musicians will be on display at Bleach* Surfing the Fringe.
