Bands on Film - A celebration of Brisbane music videos

Here at Brisbane Sounds HQ, we thought it was time to try something a little different. Enter Bands On Film, an exciting and unique evening taking place August 27 at Tribal Theatre (the old Dendy, George St).

Bands on Film

In these lush, historical surrounds, the night will feature panel discussions, live music and music-video all revolving around the same inherent theme of our home-town: Brisbane.

With a panel of local music-video know-it-alls, Bands On Film will delve deep into the heart of Brisbane music and explore the ideas behind Brisbane music videos, the emergence of Brisbane as a music city, and the interactions of film and sound, not to mention having a good old gander at some of the stand-out Brisbane music videos across time.

The panels will also be accompanied by local music with acoustic live performances from Brisbane-bred musicians Dave McCormack (singing the songs of Custard), the sweet sounds of Tara Simmons, and the alt-country vibe of Steve Grady.

What a fine mix of talent and a treat for local audiences, having one of Brisbane’s most renowned musicians sharing the stage with two 2010 Q-Song finalists! This will most certainly be a night to remember.

Between discussions and sets, you will be taken back in time and entertained by a continuous stream of Brisbane music videos, both old and new.

All proceeds from the evening will be donated to The Big Issue, who provide opportunities for homeless and marginalised people in our local and wider communities.

Tickets for Bands on Film are $12 plus booking fees or $15 at the door and are available now through oztix.com.au and all regular outlets.

Come and join in the festivities of the evening, celebrating and supporting Brisbane music, film and arts communities as a whole in this unique and exciting way!

Summoning all disreputable members of the underworld: BASTARDFEST tour is forcibly entering Brisbane’s Globe Theatre as part of a selected Australian tour on August 28th.

Vayer EP Launch – Aug 13 - the Zoo

AMG ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS – Vayer EP Launch – 13 August The Zoo

The Zoo will be welcoming Vayer and the release of their self-titled EP on the 13th of August 2010. Offering patrons a sound scape of progressive rock and alternative metal, Vayer will be joined by Brisbane heavyweights The Quickening, Dead Letter Opener and Levic.

The Mercy Beat – Aug 7th - the Zoo

The Mercy Beat, one of Brisbane’s hardest working live acts, have taken a hiatus from beating a bloody path through Brisbane’s live venues and laid down enough tracks to release their full-length debut ‘How to Shampoo a Yak’.

The boys are hijacking The Zoo on August 7 to celebrate the launch. To help them demonstrate the finer points of rocking they’ve enlisted the help of their most capable friends. Joining The Mercy Beat in a night of raucous music, heavy petting and possible yak shampooing, will be local legends HITS, Spitfireliar and Hundred Bad Guys with Swords.
